My husband Roy and I, Daphne, Sargent, started coming up to the mountains with our 4 boys many many years ago camping and hiking in this wonderful world of North Carolina. When we retired, we built the Bed and Breakfast of our dreams... The Hawkesdene House. We finally decided to “retire“ again, selling Hawkesdene and built our home now... but we just couldn’t stop from sharing this part of the world with friends and family... so we continued with Fernwood Cottage.
 
Our vacation rental is a mountain type lodge divided into two separate suites.  Each suite is private with its own large living/dining/bedroom/kitchen with bathroom and shower. The handmade king bed is complemented with a queen sofa bed for additional guests and the dining table is for four. There is a shared Washer/Dryer for you to use between the suites.
 
Each unit has separate heat an air-conditioning, free WIFI, satellite TV and DVD’s.  They are totally furnished, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. 
We sit on 20 acres of wooded forest looking at the peaks of the Fires Creek Wildlife Area.  Our pond is filled with bass and catfish, and you are welcome to fish and practice your fly-fishing.
 
We have a hiking trail around the property so you can see all the wonder of Western North Carolina.  We have seen Deer, Fox and yes even Bear on our property.  If you are lucky enough, you can find the hidden tree house for a quiet lunch or bring your hammock and have that afternoon nap you deserve. 
Our guests enjoy the beauty of the local attractions that Western North Carolina has to offer, from fly fishing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, arts and crafts from the numerous local artisans’, music and so much more.  Come alone, with your companion and / or your friends... you deserve the peace and quiet our small section of the world provides.
